SUPPORT:

Reinstall the Gumboy to your avatar if any critical issues occur to ensure it wasn't due to an error when installing. I cannot respond to all questions on how to install the Gumboy itself, but I may update installation instructions with more info. If any glitches with the Gumboy occur, attempt to reproduce the issue.

Contact me at Gumbosupport on Discord if none of these tips help!

Common Issues:

  • If VRCFury gives you an error about "Too many synced/unsynced parameters" on upload, update VRCFury!
  • If you get build errors or missing scripts, make sure you have VRCFury installed, AND you have the most recent VRC SDK. The Gumboy uses a recently added script! (HeadChop)
  • If you avatar has too many synced parameters (over 189 bits to fit the 68 that the Gumboy uses) you will need to uncheck "Synced" on some of your parameters. Locate the Parameter component in your avatar descriptor, then unsync parameters until you have less than 189 bits used! (if you install multiple assets with VRCFury you will need less than this. GogoLoco uses 16 bits, so you would need 173 pre-upload.)
  • Constraints are finicky! If your screen float or desktop constraint aren't working as intended, reinstall the asset or check your constraints!
  • If your game seems frozen or stuck, make sure it isn't paused. Pulling the cartridge out pauses the game! If it continues to freeze, switch in and out of the avatar. DO NOT RESET YOUR AVATAR, you will lose your high score and current game.
  • If the game is slow/unresponsive, check your framerate! 60 is recommended, 80+ is ideal, 30 is a minimum. The higher your FPS, the less input delay and the faster the blocks can move!
  • If the music doesn't play, that means you imported the Gumboy without a version of the SDK that includes the new "VRC Animator Play Audio" animator behavior. Importing the Gumboy without the newest SDK causes Unity to discard this behavior, even if you update it after the fact. After updating the SDK, you must re-import the Gumboy unitypackage and let Unity replace your animator.
  • If you are uploading to Android (Quest) and get an error about physbones/contacts, remove some from your avatar or the Gumboy! Quest cannot have more than 8 physbone components, and the Gumboy has two. The battery hatch is purely cosmetic, and the cartridge pull only pauses the game when pulled out so it is non-vital! Locate them in the Gumboy's Armature and click the three dots at the top right of the Physbone to "Remove Component." If you don't intend on using contact buttons, the five face button contacts can also be removed. (Note: the CoRotate contact also doubles as the power switch, so keep that if you want to power it on with the power switch!)
  • This asset will experience issues with scale syncing and flying syncing if using VRCFury's Unlimited Params component. It is recommended to avoid using it, or set the console to a desired size and remove the Scale radial from the menu to fix this issue.
